Women Safety In India and it's solutions: Nikita Tomar Case

Till now you would have seen this viral video in which a boy named Tauseef killed a girl named Nikita Tomar with gunshot and the reason was given by the family of Nikita was that Tauseef was forcing Nikita to change her religion and to marry him which she denied and because of that Tauseef tried to first kidnap her and when she resisted him he ended up shooting her on her head. The incident took place in Ballabgarh, Haryana. Till now both Tauseef and the other accused Rehan is arrested by the police on Tuesday from Mewat and during interrogation, Tauseef revealed that he killed Nikita Tomar as she was planning to get married to someone else and after his offer of 'friendship' and conversion of religion was rejected by Nikita, Tauseef was infuriated and decided to teach Nikita a lesson.
But you know what he taught a lesson to us too that if you belong to a powerful family like he was as his uncle was a former congress MLA then you can do anything, you don't have to be worried about the law and order. Like Kathua rape case, Asaram's Case, Unnao Rape Case, Hatras Rape Case again Tauseef taught us that how much weak is our law and order is and already we all know that to get justice in such cases is equivalent to a miracle, you have to at least wait for 7 long years to get justice and even that is not sure.

Today even the world is speaking that India is the most unsafe country for women and this is what our real identity is. What will you do after becoming a superpower if your own daughter and sister is not safe and this is one of the reasons why our own people are leaving us and shifting to other nations cause they don't feel safe in their own country.

In our country, a rape case is registered every 16 minutes. That is an average of 87 cases daily More than 4 lakh crimes against women are reported every year. The crimes against women have been increasing every year for the past few years and all of this when 99% of sexual offences go unreported, Keeping aside normal cases, let us talk about high profile cases. Collecting evidence, interrogating people, building a case, filing a charge sheet and then going to court is a difficult task. 

Take the Kathua case- molestation of an 8-year-old girl and then her murder Rallies were conducted in favour of the accused and political pressure was mounted to try and save them, Take the case of Asaram Bapu a deluge of lawyers turned up to save him, In the case of Hathras- after the murder of the girl, the police cremated her body in the dead of the night, In the case of Unnao- After the rape of a 17-year-old girl, her family and witnesses were gradually killed. 

It is futile to say- All of us know that getting justice in such cases is nothing short of a miracle And in the Nirbhaya case, it took so many years for justice to be served and after all this, when an international publication states that India is unsafe for women, we lose our calm.

SOLUTION FOR WOMEN SAFETY

Just like law and order is necessary in a society to nab a criminal, similarly, the fear of law and order is equally necessary to deter crime. This is why we need a specific institution for women safety which is going to stop and decrease the crimes and atrocities happening against women. We don't need denial- we need solutions This is why we demand that the government needs to create a special division for women immediately. The division would have the training and the resources which would be able to immediately deal with cases like Nikita, Nirbhaya, Hathras and Asaram. They can immediately collect evidence, take the case to a fast track court and can secure a clean and clear conviction. If those that commit atrocities against women are able to see that the government is taking stringent actions against them then the crimes are going to come down for sure! And it might atleast stop attacks on women in broad daylight. Bear in mind- Along with forensic and investigative experts, the team division will also have lawyers,

And by the way, we are not talking out of nowhere- such things have happened in our country. Have you heard of SFIO- Serious Fraud Investigation Office? After the stock market scams of 2000-02, vanishing companies scams and the failure of Non-banking financial companies, the Vajpayee government had set up the SFIO. It has been operative since 9th of January, 2003 and their job is to detect massive frauds in large companies or a case which has crores of money of the people involved, or a case/business/person who is cheating the system to earn money and Very recently, the CBI has set up a special unit called - Online Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Prevention Investigation or OCSAE The child predators carry out child sexual abuse and exploitation through online means. This special unit has the tools, training and the time that is not available in the nearby police stations, So, just like SFIO and OCSAE, our country needs a women safety division. When there can be a dedicated unit for high-level frauds, then why can there not be a women safety division?

  

CONCLUSION

You might get two-day happiness after an encounter like in the Hyderabad rape case but if you want to instil fear in the hearts of the killers and rapists, then pick out the most monstrous crime, investigate it meticulously, collect evidence, drag the accused to the court and immediately put them behind bars- and no delay should be tolerated cause if every second day, Tausif would read news like these or received forwards like these, then he might have thought twice before doing such a thing. 

Whereas you and I have to make demands for SCAW unitedly or else, we could light candles at India gate again two days later as for the government it will come up with another Nikita safety fund, just like it had come up with a Nirbhaya safety fund which is going to remain "safe" in the bank for years to come.
