In 2020, a crisis, other than Corona, made its way into our lives. Neither medical nor political; this was rather an insecurity crisis. Insecurity was exploited upon in ingenious manner. But, corona or no corona, we are insecure always anyway..especially middle class parents.
You see, gone are those days when the ultimate dream was to crack IIT after schooling. Nowadays, 9 year olds earn in crores thanks to coding for Google.
Kids these days planning retirement by the age 18, wah! Or perhaps conspiring to succeed Sundar Pichai before it's time.
Because, parents: you know how they take WhatsApp messages like carving in a stone.

Likewise, in this case, ads, testimonials, etc kept pouring in all over from 360 degrees. On one hand, son of Gupta became the Wolf of Coding Street.
On the other, renowned figures such as Obama and Gates advocate coding.

As a result, parents booked their little ones at White Hat Jr. coding classes. What happened thereafter is unknown and unsettled at this point. But their luring Ads kicked up a row on social media in 2020.
Initially, White Hat Jr. tried to clamp down on these revolting voices.
For example, 30-year old software engineer Pradeep Poonia. When he took objection to White Hat Jr. ads and practices. His YouTube channel, Reddit, Twitter, Quora, Linkedin shut off suddenly.
This just shows how fragile a voice on social media is.

Eventually, Advertising Council of India took notice of White Hat Jr. Ads.
They then were asked to pull Ads off from all platforms due to misleading nature.
Past few months White Hat Jr. is "under course correction". Its founder and CEO has promised to rethink the Ads.
However, amid all this ruckus, coding earned itself a bad name. It's under a lot of suspicion off late.
The big question: Is it wrong to teach kids coding?
Absolutely not!
To play off with parents' insecurity, build pressure, lure them with monies, THAT is wrong. Even illegal.
But according to New Education Policy, coding lessons will start as early as class 6. Along with other skills that will boost our kids self-reliance. This we explained in our last year's NEP article.
Remember, NEP says class 6 onwards. When language and logic are clear. Class 6, not age 6!
Why impart the burden of coding when the kid is struggling to frame sentences?
For kids to code AT THE RIGHT AGE is beneficial in long run. Because, STEM jobs require coding at various stages.

Furthermore, coding, if taught correctly, is a lot more fun than supposed. They can go on to develop apps, video games, websites, so on. A journey from digital consumers to digital creators. Coding helps improve problem solving ability. It shows how to break down larger problem into smaller ones.
Experts also say that coding can help in collaboration and communication.
This, however, does not mean that all kids get into it. Mug it up. No.
We must treat coding like regular hobby.
Some kids paint, others write well, some play like Messi, others code.
This should be the way forward. It's necessary to understand coding for what it is. Without hype or pressure, Introduce it at right age. Like NEP suggests class 6 onwards.
Coding is all the more important for college going students. It shows in data that more than 50% graduates are unemployable. They lack skill, or training, that employers seek.
Engineers are worse off. According to a 2019 report by Annual Employability Survey, almost 80% engineers aren't fit for jobs. Including toppers, as well.
The situation is so because tech companies demand constant update of skill. Whereas college syllabi remain prehistoric. For example: merely 2.5% of engineers possess skills in Artificial Intelligence. 95% engineers cannot even code, can you believe it?
Perhaps, they all be following their passion after BTech, like Chetan Bhagat.😂
Another trouble is how "We" make enemy out of English language when it really is the global language of business.
Many of Indian engineers come from rural background. So, less proficient in english.
This language problem, we explained in detail, before. When education system cannot help, companies to step in.
