Why Are These Misguided Farmers Disturbing Lord Modi?

A New India, united and uniformed, was headed on its way to 5 trillion dollar economy, at an incredible 100 kph speed. Suddenly, these "misguided farmers" appeared in the scene and all our progress was hampered by their very presence! Not a single person cared when the "misguided" farmers had remained "misguided" in their native Punjab. Sick and tired of not being heard, the "misguided" farmers rushed to Delhi. Yet, unable to convince the government, the "misguided" farmers announced Bharat Bandh on Dec 8. 11 anti-national political parties (DMK, NCP, SP, INC, etc) supported it in writing. Also, leaders from Shiv-Sena, TMC, AAP etc had backed the "misguided" farmers.
Furthermore, "misguided" trade unions also extended their support to Bharat Bandh. Their demands were to Rollback the 3 Farm laws at once!

LORD MODI VS THE MISGUIDED FARMERS

The first and foremost question: How have these farmers become so misguided? Why not stay quiet and behave like their fellow guided compatriots? The Govt has all the good intentions after all! Like when they demonetized the currency (although nothing good ever came out of it) ...Or when the GST was implemented without any thoughts, the businessmen remained "guided" despite suffering irreparable losses. Not a single foreign organization batted an eye when a CAA activist was jailed. So why speak out now? Do we protest when made to breathe poison in the name of air? Have we any care for the rapidly crashing economy? Or does the unemployed dare go against the Govt? You may ask why not?

Well, because, those are highly trained, guided, nationalists, patriots. They can't be misguided so easily as the farmers. Like good, sincere citizens, they consume propaganda on the television, then they scream Justice for SSR (almost) half a year or else battle China virtually and then they go sleeping. Words like Debate, Dissent, Discuss, Deliberate and Delete are aliens to them. However, B for Bhakti, Boycott and BnD, they hold dear and besides, nobody ever got anything out of protest. So why bother? Because aware media become paid media, students become Tukde Tukde Gang, Folks from Bollywood become Drug Mafia, Opposition is anti-national anyway, Intellectuals are frowned upon. Activists, well, they land up in jail straightaway, thanks to UAPA.

That's exactly how they tried to discredit the farmers- Khalistani, Shaheen Bagh and so on. Not even Kangana could help this time around, propaganda did not stand a chance against the Punjabis. They came prepared! and BJP is like "The opposition add fuel to fire". On one hand, the Central govt claims conspiracy rolls out plans to fail Bharat Bandh and on the other, their party workers announce Bandh in North Bengal the same day! (Ah, hypocrisy) and that's not it, the "misguided" farmers kept out the B&D media by holding "Don't Cover Us" posters. Perhaps, they understand what our uncles don't? (Godi Media Go Back, Go Back!) Never before has the government had to face such an uproar from its people.

FARMERS WON

All this while, farmer protests have managed to attract foreign attention; from Trudeau to United Nations. How the hell did these "misguided" farmers garner so much support. Despite having their image maligned by the Godi Media? Maybe because nobody anymore is convinced by the Govt, which in its arrogance, refuses to hear anybody with a different say. Trade unions, unhappy with new labour laws lent their support to Bharat Bandh, 51 Transport unions extended their support as well, BSNL (on the verge of extinction) and all the Bank unions also gave their support. Plus, well known sportspeople returned their awards.

CONCLUSION

Past few weeks have shown how badly Godi media and IT cell have failed in their attempt to discredit the whole movement. The government is unable to understand as to how an outrage of such magnitude could emerge without any external support. People suspect that they are being cheated in the name of development, that how bills become laws without any discussion or debate. Yet, the prime minister maintains that the farmers are being misguided.

According to Lord Modi, the new farm law will send the middlemen out of the system, hence, profits shall increase, good. But what if they don't? So, earlier, farmers could always rely on the Minimum Support Price. Now, there is "no clause for MSP" in the law (and why not?) After all, aren't they supposed to prevent one's exploitation? Just like they decide the maximum ticket fares for airlines, can they not secure a minimum support price for the farmers?

Shame on us if we cannot ensure safety to a small farmer from the big corporates. Secondly, why so many Punjab and Haryana farmers in the protests, ask Whatsapp University and Godi media. That's because they do realize the importance of MSP since they benefit off of it. Punjab, Haryana & Western U.P. (the pioneers of Green Revolution) are the major producers of those crops on which MSP can be availed. In other states, however, MSP could never become what it is, due to one or the other reason. ..And now, the Govt has turned to privatization without even a minimum guarantee. Now, this is what masterstrokes look like! To understand this point deeply, check out our previous article.

The bottom line is: Govt does not intend to ensure MSP even though the farmers cry for it. The poor Indian farmer is caught up in debts, in addition to surviving high fertilizer, electricity and petrol rates. Furthermore, the farmer always has to play a gamble on the climate, knowing not what to expect when. If despite all the produce is high, then the market prices dip as a result and again the farmer loses and now, even the assurance of MSP will go away along with the ability to settle a dispute legally in court. This is according to the new farmer bill, Truly a masterstroke indeed, or is it?! Maybe, the Govt has all the good motivations, then why pass the bills without holding any discussion in the Parliament? Looks like the new farm laws may harm agriculture in the same way as GST crumbled the overall economy. The businessmen did not raise their concerns then, but the farmers are now doing it.

Any sort of protest has been termed anti-national by the media. However, things are changing. As the BJP faces water cannons in Bengal, protests are becoming mainstream. Similarly, Bharat Bandh by the farmers is also a democratic move. Make sure you read about this bill in further detail and ask the experts if you can, double-check it with the international media and pay no heed to the B&D media.
