US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said that China does not have a monopoly on the South China Sea. He said that the US policy in this matter is very clear. The United States believes that the China Sea dispute should be resolved according to international law. Mike Pompeo said that if China violates international law and in such a situation the nations of the world could not do anything, then the Communist Party of China would take over more territory.

A few days ago Australia also backed the US, saying that China's claim on the South China Sea is illegal. Australia's Permanent Mission rejected China's Communist Party's claim to the disputed islands in a letter to the United Nations. The Australian Government said that China's claim was against the 1982 United Nations Treaty on Maritime Law.

China accounts for about 90 percent of the South China Sea region. The South China Sea is very important in terms of world trade.

Earlier, the US had termed China's claim on most of the resources of the South China Sea as a tactic to illegally occupy the region. In a July 13 statement, Mike Pompeo stated that the United States is in line with the 2016 Arbitration Tribunal's decision in this regard.
